The summits of the Rothaargebirge hills, panoramic vistas and half-timbered villages in the Schmallenberger Sauerland region are now connected by three new cycle routes, which with their steep ascents are specially oriented to e-bike users.
The 53 kilometre-long ‘Bauerland’ route ascends up to heights of 534 metres, offering cyclists a special nature experience including panoramic views onto fields, meadows and mountains. The Rothaar route crosses the heights of the Rothaargebirge hills twice, and with its 52 kilometre-route offers an e-bike experience with impressive views between Schmallenberg and Bad Berleburg. On the 49-kilometre Golddorf cycle route, there is the option of getting to know seven locations certified as ‘Golddörfer’, or golden villages. Around a dozen villages in the region overall have won the golden plaque in the ‘Make our village more beautiful’ competition. On every last Saturday of the month, a guided culinary tour is offered along this route. Clear, uninterrupted marking of the new cycle routes makes them easy to explore on your own, however.
