Safari through the Europe of the last Ice Age

App shows ceremonial and everyday scenes from life during the ice age.

Autor: Julia Bauer

Mammoths, cave lions, woolly rhinos, aurochs and cave bears are just some of the stars of the last ice age waiting to meet visitors to the Neandertal Museum in Mettmann. From 25 November 2017 to 22 April 2018, the new special exhibition, “Lions, Mammoths & Co.” (“Löwe, Mammut & Co.”) invites you on a safari through the treeless vegetation of the mammoth steppe. The animals have been specially reconstructed for the exhibition by leading model makers in Europe.

During a day in the steppe, visitors can learn how to read tracks, listen to tales told around the camp fire at night and visit archaeologists in their laboratory. For children, a Safari Action Pack is available, while for adults, the visit can be supplemented by an ice age guidebook and the free exhibition app which shows ceremonial and everyday scenes from life during the ice age.
