In rooms with different themes, stories are told of upheavals, periods of transition and new beginnings.
Under the main theme “Neue Welten” (“New Worlds”), the Museum Folkwang will present its permanent collection in a new way. From the early summer, in the spirit of the Folkwang concept of a dialogue between the media and the arts, the different areas of the collection will be brought together with examples of works and will tell the story of upheavals, periods of transition and new beginnings in different themed rooms.
The new presentation will be accompanied by a three-part Bauhaus series. In a changing interplay between painting, graphic art, poster art, photography and moving images, three cabinet exhibitions will follow the many different ways in which the Museum Folkwang was connected to the Bauhaus movement. From 18th January to 14th April 2019, the focus will be on Lyonel Feininger and the expressionist beginnings of the school; from 28th April to 8th September 2019, the museum will present the Bauhaus stage designs, and from 20th September to December 2019, photography and film will be the main subject, illustrated through works by László Moholy-Nagy.
