“Peace. From antiquity to the present day”. The project is planned for next year in commemoration of the signing of the Peace of Westphalia 370 years ago and the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War. From 28 April to 2 September 2018, the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur (the LWL museum of art and culture), the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster, the Archäologisches Museum der Universität Münster (the archaeological museum of the University of Münster), the diocese of Münster and the City Museum of Münster will highlight the struggle for peace in its many different guises.
The LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur will show paintings on the subject, including works by Rubens, Goya, Picasso, Dix and Kollwitz. The Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster will show examples of Picasso’s intensive artistic engagement with the subject of war and peace. The exhibition will include several variations on his dove of peace, for example. The City Museum of Münster will dedicate itself to the reception history of the Peace of Westphalia, with a focus on the anniversary years of 1748, 1848 and 1948.
