From the summer of 2019, visitors can also spend the night on the grounds of the Unesco World Heritage Site in Essen: In June, a design hotel, which is currently being built on the former materials collection point of pit 1/2/8, is to open. The topping-out ceremony for the building belonging to the „hotel friends“ hotel group will take place on 7 March. The building, based on the classic modern architecture of the Zollverein World Heritage Site, with its 67 individually designed rooms, suites, bistro, lounge and conference areas, will serve as holiday accommodation and as a meetings and conference venue.
The gastronomic offering is also being expanded: In a hitherto unused listed hall, a new restaurant called The Mine is also opening in the summer.
The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, which has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2001, attracts around 1.5 million visitors annually.
