From 23 November 2018 to 24 March 2019, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne will show a major general exhibition of artistic developments and trends from three centuries of US American art. Entitled “Es war einmal in Amerika” (“Once upon a time in America”), around 120 works created in the USA between 1650 and 1950 will be shown, some of which have never been seen in Germany. The show begins with works from the colonial period through to the masters of American realism, and ends with examples of abstract expressionism. Divided into eight exhibition sections, the exhibits, including world-famous paintings, sculptures and photographs, as well as works that are almost unknown here, together with Native American exhibits, artistic developments and trends will be shown.
